There is a huge variety of activities and attractions focused on various interests offered in Still Bay and surrounding areas.
Water sport lovers
Settled around the Goukou River estuary flowing into the Indian Ocean, Still Bay is perfect for water sport enthusiasts. Apart from the river, Still Bay offers two blue flag beaches with exiting activities. Such as swimming, paddling, canoeing, scuba diving and surfing in the breakers. Also water skiing, windsurfing, body boarding as well as river fishing, deep sea fishing and rock fishing. The list goes on…
For the nature lovers Still Bay offers wonderful opportunities to watch the many bird species or to walk along the beach or riverbanks during low tide. Or for the more daring there are different hiking trails. Such as the hike from Still Bay to Jongensfontein, another pretty coastal village some 9 km from Still Bay. Or the scenic, but sometimes challenging mountain bike trails to be conquered by the fit and the furious.
Exhilarating game drives through different game reserves in the area are also available to those interested in wildlife. Places like Indalu where you can walk with Elephant or the well known Garden Route Game Reserve near Albertinia. Some of the reserves are breeding farms for exotic species such as the buffalo, sable antelope and nyala. Furthermore you can do some whale watching during the whaling season. This is around (June-November) when the southern right whales (noorkapper) come south to breed in these waters.
For those who love to discover and learn, Still Bay also offers various fascinating and intriguing entertainment such as visiting the ancient fish traps. Or the shell middens where the ancient people disposed of their waste. Or the Blombos Caves where the ancient people dwelled and left cave drawings and other interesting artefacts. Some of which can be perused in the Museum at the Palinggat. Also the place where one can witness the feeding of the eels by hand. While listening to the incredible facts about these eels. On the eastern side of the river, there is the ‘Tuin op die Brak’ garden promoting the indigenous plants of the area.
Visit the cheese-producing farm, Kasselshoop. Here you will learn about the process of making cheese while tasting their various delicious cheeses. Or visit Inverroche the local gin distillery for a taste of their pride and joy. There are various wine-farmers around bottling their own wines where you can visit and of course taste their wine.
Furthermore Still Bay has a lovely golf course where you are welcome to join in for a game or two. Likewise there is a bowling green with a view over the ocean, so striking it may threaten take your mind off the game. Other sports like tennis, “jukskei”, a pistol shooting range, active bridge club as well as a Putt Putt course.
Shopping and Emergency Services
Moreover, you are welcome to support the local gift shops, flea markets, grocery stores, restaurants and real estate agents. As well as events organised specifically with the holiday makers in mind. There are three Banks as well as various ATMs and one Petrol Station in town. With another just a few kilometers outside the town on Droëvlakte.
Of course emergency services such as doctors, pharmacies, dentists and vets as well as the NSRI and the S A Police are also available.
